Founder of Saint Vincent Archabbey, College and Seminary, and the American Cassinese Congregation.
In commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of Boniface Wimmer’s priestly ordination, a large-scale 3,800 pound bronze statue was commissioned from the Austrian-born, Italian artist, Ferdinand Seeboeck. Seeboeck is also the artist who created all of the marble sculptures in the Archabbey Basilica. Seeboeck’s bust of Wimmer “merited the praise of the Benedictine community’s most exacting critics,” and it became the model for the face of the gigantic statue that stands on the stone pedestal in front of the Archabbey Basilica. It has been greeting visitors to campus since 1931.
This reproduction bust is hand-crafted at Saint Vincent, from the original terra-cotta bust model made by Ferdinand Seeboeck in 1929. It is made of resin, and measures approximately 9 ½” high x 8 ½” wide x 5 ½” deep. Available in natural white or antique bronze.
