Father Patrick T. Cronauer, O.S.B., professor of Sacred Scripture and Biblical Languages at Saint Vincent Seminary, recently spearheaded the endeavor of getting a third edition published of The Rule of Saint Benedict in Modern Hebrew. The work, which will appeal to Christians living in the Holy Land.

The year 2025 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Father Isaac Jacob, O.S.B. (1995), the forty-fifth year since the first publication of the “Rule of Saint Benedict” in modern Hebrew (1980), and the sixtieth anniversary of the publication of the Second Vatican Council’s seminal document, Nostra Aetate (1965). Nostra Aetate, the Council’s Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions, promulgated by Pope Paul VI on October 28, 1965, gave the thrust to and became the sustaining force behind the work and life-long witness of both Father Isaac Jacob, O.S.B. and Father Gabriel Grossmann, O.P. in Israel. Father Grossman was the translator of this work.

This third edition is made possible through the impetus and encouragement of Sister Gemma DelDuca, S.C., a long-time co-worker with Father Isaac Jacob in Israel and co-founder of the National Catholic Center for Holocaust Education (NCCHE) at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, which was an outgrowth of her international work in Holocaust education and Christian-Jewish dialogue.

The third edition contains all the printed materials of the 2005 second edition with few alterations beyond formatting.
