Benedict Janecko

Brother Benedict F. Janecko, O.S.B.’s publications include “Myth, History, God and Jesus,” in the American Benedictine Review (1972); “Israel, Prophecy and Politics,” in the Biblical Theology Bulletin (1978); The Psalms:  The Heartbeat of Life and Worship, published in 1986 by St. Meinrad Abbey Press and reprinted in 2007 by Archabbey Publications;  “Praying the Psalms” in Prayer Notes, published by St. Meinrad Abbey Press (1992); “The Wisdom Tradition and Mid-Life,” in The Bible Today (1992); and “Ecology, Nature, Psalms,” in a Festschrift presented to Joseph I. Hunt, The Psalms and Other Studies on the Old Testament, edited by Jack C. Knight and Lawrence A. Sinclair, printed for Nashotah House Seminary in 1990 by Forward Movement Publications, Cincinnati, Ohio. In 2003, Brother Ben received a first place for best feature article, prayer and spirituality, from the Catholic Press Association, for “Forgiveness and Reconciliation in Genesis,” which was published in The Bible Today.

A monk of Saint Vincent Archabbey he is a retired member of the Saint Vincent College and Seminary faculty.

He received a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from Saint Vincent College. He studied at the Collegio di Sant’ Anselmo, Rome, Italy, where he received his S.T.L. in theology, and at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, where he received his S.S.L. in Sacred Scripture. He was ordained a deacon on July 4, 1964 in Einsiedeln, Switzerland, by Bishop Joseph Avack.

At Saint Vincent Seminary, he taught Old Testament and was dean of men. He retired from the seminary faculty in 2007 and the college faculty in 2012.
